The Theatre of Value series is among David’s many mini-monuments to retail culture. These signs look like they have urgent news, but the news is that nothing is happening. Prices appear reduced but remain unchanged. Each one is a nothing-burger with the lot. Removed from the shop floor, the pieces become strangely sincere: ads with nothing to advertise, offering the rare comfort of a promise they can keep.
