ABOUT THE SCULPTURE
David introduced Guru Adrian 40+ years ago, when Sydney’s headlines were full of dodgy mystics, Scientology, and Catholic Church scandals. The world seemed ready for a commonsensical, secular deity: a Saviour Self.

Adrian’s wise sayings, or Adrianisms – like Having Fun is Half the Fun – first appeared in Triple J’s zine Alan. Soon, Adrianists were everywhere, along with Guru Adrian posters, graffiti, T-shirts, stickers, badges, and Fun Credit Cards.

Before memes were memes, Guru Adrian became one: a cult figure for young non-conformists drawn to Adrianetics, his Philosophy of Fun.

David has often been asked when the Guru will rise again. Given everything going on, now feels like the time.

ABOUT THE COLLABORATOR
David serendipitously stumbled across the work of Aussie sculptor Anne Kwasner when her son interviewed him about art. The comfy oddness and tactile warmth of her pieces were an immediate draw, and also qualities that perfectly align with the Guru.
